Things about Platinum you need to know

What is Platinum?

Platinum is a kind of rare WHITE metal and with higher density than gold and it would not oxidize. PT950 or PT900 will be marked on the platinum jewellery, which means the jewellery is made of 95% or 90% of pure platinum. In Jay Jewellery, we usually offer PT950 to our customers.

The Pros of Platinum

Platinum is a natural white metal and it would not fade, but 18k white gold MAY fade over time if you let your jewellery come in contact with chemical like shampoo or perfumes all the time.

Another benefit of platinum is hypoallergenic, while 18K White Gold usually contain nickel which causes allergic for some.

The Cons of Platinum

Despite the high density of platinum, platinum is softer than 18k gold. This means it will get scratched and dull easily than 18k gold over time. The softer platinum may not hold the diamonds or gemstones securely if you crash your ring hard inadvertently. And your platinum ring may get bent due to its softness.

Besides, the price of platinum is usually HIGHER than 18K gold as more platinum is required to make a ring because it is denser, and the maintenance cost is higher due to its softness.

When you MUST choose Platinum?

For those who may have sensitive skin and allergy to alloys like nickel, platinum is definitely your choice!
